Haji Mohammad Mohaqeq
A member of the Wahdat-e-Islami Afghanistan party, he is from Mazar-e-Sharif. Following the Bonn agreement, Mohaqeq landed the job of Planning Minister in the Interim Authority. He kept his position until his “resignation” (or “firing”?) of March 7, 2004. Mohaqeq claims that his announcing his candidacy for the presidential race had gained him enemies inside the Cabinet and that his firing was the result of a political plot lead by Ashraf Ghani. It should be noted that during his tenure in the Cabinet, he indeed had several times clashed with Finance Minister Ashraf Ghani.
