The Ghowarshad Mausoleum

The mausoleum was bulit in the 15th Century for the Temurid Queen Ghowarshad. A once prestigious building, the monument is in urgent need of restoration.

Here is a view from one of the lower hills in the center.

A bicyclist rides passed the historic minarets of the Herat. Bikes remain a very popular mean of transportation.

The view of camels walking alongside cars may be amusing and appealing to the tourists, but to the Heratis, it’s an impediment to the traffic.

“Masjid Jame”

This mosque, situated in the centre of the city, is viewed as one of Afghanistan’s architectural gems.
